Dr. Zenong Yin

The Roadrunner Diabetes Screening and Education Project (Roadrunner DSE Project) is a community-based health promotion program that provides free diabetes screening and diabetes prevention education in underserved and economically disadvantaged communities in San Antonio and South Texas.
The director of this project is run by Dr. Zenong Yin who is also involved in many other heath projects to help the community of San Antonio live healthier lives. The program coordinator is Wenxi Liu who is the most involved in this project by planning screening events for the community of San Antonio to attend and find out more information. Lastly, there are currently four amazing community health workers that hold educational classes all around the San Antonio area.

Director

Dr. Zenong Yin is a professor in Health and Kinesiology in the Department of Health and Kinesiology at the University of Texas at San Antonio, San Antonio, Texas. Currently, Dr. Yin teaches both undergraduate and graduate classes in Health and Kinesiology, and conducts research on school- and community-based physical activity and nutrition interventions for the prevention of obesity and type 2 diabetes in low-income and minority children and adults.

Wenxi (Kevin) Liu is currently a graduate assistant at the University of Texas-San Antonio and is graduating in May 2017. Kevin helps out with multiple projects that are run by Dr. Yin and UTSA. He also works with the community health workers to ensure they have all materials necessary for them to teach the educational classes. After graduating from UTSA Kevin has plans to move back to China to utilize his skills and degree.

There are four community health workers that are working with the Roadrunner DSE project. From the left to right in the photo above is Silvia Moreno, Deyanira Orosco, Miguel Padilla, and Alicia Diaz. The community health workers along with health ambassadors work closely with the community and mainly teach the educational classes. You can also find the health workers at the screening events giving out more information on diabetes and recommendations for you to attend other health programs provided by San Antonio.
